Sade Sati is the 7.5 year astrological phenomenon when Saturn transits the sign before your moon, the sign of your moon, and the sign after your moon. Saturn, moving every 2.5 years through 3 signs, makes this a 7.5 year journey.
Depending on where the moon and saturn are in your chart, what planets your moon is with, and what sign it is in, as well as what sign your ascendant is in, your experience can vary.
I highly suggest not googling “sade sati” unless you want to read about the dogmatic hell we are all meant to go through for 7.5 years.
Truthfully, Saturn is a teacher, and this planet teaches us how to be patient, work hard, stay devoted, and to be humble. The moon is sensitive, it changes quickly, it is our emotional mind, how sense and feeling centers. When Saturn transits the moon, it can bring heaviness, delays, depression, or huge karmic changes offering us the opportunity to step up in our maturity, have a greater sense of responsibility, work harder, and learn to develop more skills to navigate the area of our life(houses) that this happens in.
My saturn is well placed in it’s mooltrikona sign of aquarius, so she is sitting pretty. My moon is at the far end of that same sign, in the depths of purva bhadrapada, so these past 2 years have been peak sade sati, and I want to share about my experiences with it.
I have found that astrology can offer us a little glimpse into possible futures, so that we can be prepared, we can remain compassionate, and for those that were raised in chaos— this fore-knowledge can bring a sense of peace and understanding to the nervous system, rather than being swung around by random changes begging God for answers of when it will end. It will end, after 7.5 years— and then it gets really good again.
Now of course, this is general, to be specific, it really depends on your chart. I have looked at the chart of a huge star like Sydney Sweeney, and the journey of her becoming super famous and getting her big breaks, were all during sade sati. I don’t know about her personal life, but fame has a way of stressing the mind and the nervous system too.
So it isn’t all bad, big challenges and changes in our career can happen, because they offer us our karmic duties, and greater levels of personal responsibility— but not without lessons.
It also depends on which Sade Sati you are in… the first, if it happens when you are a child, usually impacts your parents and family life. If it happens in your younger years, it has less detrimental effects as the later ones, though it is still a time of massive changes.
For your second, it can bring more death, greater career growth, a new child, a divorce, any of the major life changing things that define young adulthood.
The third, can often bring more death, sometimes our own death, sometimes that of others, as well as greater psychological and social shifts (generally, again, it depends on your chart), and the fourth, if you have one, is usually ones demise. This 7.5 year transit happens every 28 years, so the chances of having more than 4 is unlikely. For many, it can bring legal issues, illness, and the ending of relationships, careers, financial issues, and more. However, some people feel barely brushed by saturn’s guidance, mainly due to remedies in their chart, a personality that is already integrating the lessons of saturn, or having other karmic support making the journey a bit easier for some than others.
I am currently in my second, and although I built my business to be quite successful, found huge financial milestones, a home and a car, a little life that I have loved, it has also brought 16 deaths, 3 strokes, a stolen car, and countless endings of relationships with people I once considered friends. The veil lifts during this transit, and it can often take away relationships, jobs, and life situations that are no longer supporting who you are meant to become.
Without this knowledge, it is very easy to fall into victimhood. With this knowledge, and awareness and practice of remedies, it is much easier to build a relationship with saturn, work hard, stay humble, and continue taking in the lessons with grace, knowing that there is an end, and it will be over soon.
